One thing you should be doing if everyday if you are sitting for work

If you are sitting all day then your posture will likely end up hunched over. What happens with this is that the muscles at the front of the shoulder, chest and abdomen tighten up. As well as the joints in the back become stiff. The best thing you can do for yourself is the reverse. That's right!

Reverse Slumping. You can do this in any office chair and you can do it every hour or so as the more often you do it the more counter effect it will have on you slumped posture. Get into a position where the top of the chair is aligned with your spine. Gently extend backwards over the chair with your hands behind your head. Take some deep breaths for a couple of minutes.

Foam Roller Thoracic Extension

You can also do this on the floor with a foam roller. Have the foam roller perpendicular to your spine just where your ribs begin above your lower back. Have your knees bent and hands behind your head. Gently extend backwards over the roller as far as is comfortable. Take deep breaths for around a minute. You will likely feel a few cracks in your spine which is fine. This is just nitrogen gas being release and is a natural process. If you are comfortable you can stretch you arms out to get more of a stretch in the chest.

If you have any questions feel free to get in touch or to ask your practitioner. If you don't have a foam roller we sell top quality ones in the clinic.
